Great compute power, look to be everything enthusiasts have been asking for, ready to install your favorite OS of choice such as Truenas, Unraid, vanilla Linux.
It's hard to see how the Synology home/power user NAS's can compete with the new NAS's hitting the market. The Synology's hardware already feels dated compared to the new competition, price is premium side of home NAS's, now you are restricted to buying drives from Synology removing flexibility.
Looks like an enshittification own goal for their home/power user range.
As much as I'd like to think there users will vote with there wallets once they cripple non-synology hard-drives I doubt it.
Synology knows there base pretty well much like Sonos they will more than likely just buy there overpriced drives.
